Archer Farms Jamaican Jerk- low fat Potato crisps

Monday, December 1st, 2008

These may be some of the worst tasting chips ever! They offer an incredibly bizarre combination of flavors including garlic (lots of that), brown sugar/ molasses, salt, and chili pepper (burnt flavor).

We could find nothing pleasant about the flavor mix or combination here. The best advice we can offer is to give these babies a wide bearth when you are in the store.

Guiltless Chili Lime Baked Chips

Monday, November 17th, 2008

These spicy ships are full of surprising, albeit unevenly spiced, flavor! There is a lot of lime and chili to be found in the bag although the spiciness did not visit every chip equally.  So some chips are simply more piquant than others.  As with most baked chips, the base chip itself is disappointing (to me).  This corn chip, like some many other baked chips, has a cardboard consistency to it.  I guess I just prefer the grease and CRUNCH of a deep fried chip.

In any event if you are looking for a tasty, spicy and almost healthy chip, these are a fine choice.

Boulder Canyon- Jalapeño Cheddar Chips

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

These are outstanding!

The flavors are balanced- there’s ample cheddar, jalapeños and potato tastes. These chips have the right amount of crunch (I guess that means there’s a good grease factor.)

If there is a down-side, it is that the bags are too small! I know it says that there are about 5 servings per bag; but I’m sure they have counted wrong.  There can’t possibly be more than two servings in these bags!

The bottom line is: if you are the mood for an exceptional snack chip with a bit of heat (from the jalapeños) these are winners!

Archer Farms- Jalapeño Cheddar Chips

I am sad to say that these chips are a disappointment.  It seems we tried some earlier and they were good; but, this bag misses the mark. There is very little heat in the chips, a distinct over abundance of onion flavor and an all but total absence of cheddar flavor.

On the upside, these chips have plenty of grease and crispiness.  So from a ‘chew’ perspective, they meet the need.

The bottom line is these can be avoided unless you really feel the need for some “crunch”.
